Porter Steel has been in the architectural metals business since the beginning, but only in the last 20 years has our work in this area been designated “architectural.” While structural steel and miscellaneous metals are mutually exclusive, architectural metals can apply to either of these two divisions. Once a product goes from being solely functional to becoming a part of the design aesthetic, it becomes an architectural element. We include glass in this division because glass rails must be supported by stainless steel typically, and the fact that we can offer a high-end glass rail on a beautiful steel stair sets us apart.
In the same way architectural metals and glass can elevate the cultural experience of the inhabitants of a building, our approach to business serves the same purpose for our customers and employees. At Porter Steel, we don’t simply want to complete the job; we want to do it right, setting an example for others in our industry and within our community.
Architectural metals is one of the most rewarding aspects of our business because we get to show off our ability to execute a creative vision. Additionally, we can use our expertise to guide the artist (architect) in realizing what is achievable, cost-effective, and ultimately, what will look pleasing in reality – not just on paper. At Porter Steel, we work with our customers and the other parties involved to make sure the final product is both beautiful and something we are all proud to put our name on.
Our safety program involves comprehensive training on equipment, protective gear, industry certifications, annual first aid and CPR training, and more. However, more than that, it's our genuine care and concern for each other that drives us to put safety before everything else.
